First off, I want to emphasize that although I'm giving this product 1 star, Amazon deserves a lot of credit for their excellent refund service, which was quick and easy.

This player uses the same ACTION chipset that those Chinese-made imitation iPods you can buy on eBay do. The difference is basically the casing and the fact that you can buy those for $[...] less. Good luck returning them back to China, though, which is why I went with Amazon. Also, most of the imitation iPods have a memory hack that creates the impression of the player having twice as much RAM as it actually does. This CENTON does not have that issue. It is a true 2 GB player.

I had just just such an ACTION chipset imitation iPod for nearly two years; it had the same operating system and user interface as this CENTON. That player served me well for nearly two years of rough use and continued working perfectly before I lost it on a bus. This CENTON on the other hand worked beautifully for two days, then bright lines started appearing on screen. These lines became worse and were permanent, making the screen, and player, unusable.

Maybe this was the one that slipped through quality control, and is just a fluke, but I still wouldn't recommend buying one after my experience.

Also, the player sent did not match the picture in the Amazon ad. The one I got had several silver buttons on the front.

I've noticed that some people who bought this and similar players complain that they can't play videos. This is not so. Here's an explanation. These types of players can only play a specific kind of video format called ".amv". You have to convert your mp4's and avi's to the .amv format first. You can download the software that performs this conversion from the manufacturer's website, if it doesn't come with the player itself. I looked at a couple different designs for a waterproof mp3 player. The dolphin looked like it had a good design, so I bought it.

It worked great for about a week. Then the problems started.

It started playing in random order... maybe it was me but I couldn't get it to play sequentially (not exactly good for audio books). Manual and website were no help.

Then it wouldn't turn on. I charged it for hours and still it wouldn't turn off. Days later it turned on... and then I couldn't turn it off.

I think it is a good design; possibly I just got a bum unit.

2GB WMA/MP3 Digital Audio Player

I bought this unit for a quick stand-in replacement for an RCA S1010A, both units run on AAA batteries, for which I own rechargeable batteries for.
First thing I noticed was the sound quality. With a pair of decent ear buds, it's horrible. No bass, and the firmware EQ doesn't help there, though it might if there was better firmware available somewhere. Of this writing I haven't found better firmware yet for this unit.
You won't notice the sound quality if you are using the unit with a high powered stereo, it does have plenty of volume.
It's also very hard to plug it in to a usb port, the connection is horrible, and it's hit or miss to make a solid usb connection, a port would have been better than a slide out plug, which is flimsy plastic.
I have to hand it to RCA on this one, granted, I paid over 50 dollars for a 500 MB unit, but it's sound quality beats this unit hands down.
I would have paid more to have better firmware than this unit currently has. It's not easy to find a song out of a possible 1000 songs.
On the plus side, I liked it enough it keep it, so that does say something positive about it. It's not a horrible unit, but I will probably end up buying another more expensive unit which means this one will be good for a cheap storage device, not a music player.

A word of advice with mp3 players, if you don't check your files for errors before you load them onto the unit, eventually they seem to corrupt the firmware until it no longer works properly which is what happened with the RCA, two years later after warranty they are still trying to help me get it working again which says allot about them. I bought this 2GB MP3 "Go Gear" player on amazon for around $30 to replace my old Coby, which I lost. I've had it for about 6 months, and as for playing music, it's fine.

But the gripes:

Since this mp3 player also functions as a 2gb USB stick, I use it for my data backup as well, just in case something happens to my computer.

They advertise this MP3 player as exactly 2gb, but that's not actually true. The true size of the drive is more like around 1.80 GB. So, if you use it to it's max capacity (all 1.80 gb), you get a nice error message when you try to "Go" and play your music:

"Error! capacity is full! please keep 16mb free for memory!"

... what?! what kind of poorly designed player doesn't have it's own internal memory? this is especially annoying when you're going to work, to the gym, or somewhere and quickly want to update your player with the latest songs. The transfer goes fine, and you think "Great! ready to go!" until you actually get to the gym and then attempt to -play- your music, when you are warned that you cannot because the player doesn't have enough free space to play your music. So, you need to wait until you actually get home to delete 16mb so that your music will actually play.

This was not mentioned when I purchased the item, in the manual, or in anything/anywhere else. When something is advertised as 2GB, I -expect- 2GB. Not 1.80gb, not 1.70 gb ... but what I -paid- for, 2gb.

It's stylish and looks great, but the original headphones were uncomfortable (I had to buy new ones) and putting it on radio mode drained the new batteries very quickly.

It's simple - if you want the best sound of all time, buy this. I've played music on dozens of MP3 players, including the iPod (snore), the latest Samsung P3, the Cowon S9, the amazing-sounding previous generation iRivers, etc. - and I come back to this one every time. No other player can render this level of fidelity, with this full a sound, with this rich and well-rounded a bass. My litmus test is to 1) play a superb yet dynamically demanding recording (e.g., disc 2 of Hybrid's Soundsystem 01 - a very dense and complex techno recording that requires a good player to do justice to all of the detail), 2) with superb buds (Shure SE530), and 3) without EQ or FX of any kind. Only the Sony is able to do full justice without any sound augmentation. And it does it time and time again, on any kind of music you throw at it. Yes, i have some nits - the inability to change the speed at which one can fast-forward through a long piece key among them. But ultimately what I want from an MP3 player is awesome sound and this delivers it in spades. Also, the physical construction is simply excellent - it is wonderfully slim, yet dense thanks to the significant steel component. The dedicated volume rocker is perfect. Finally, battery life is unreal. The accompanying earbuds are also very good but definitely toast up the bass a lot -- too much so in my view.

(Note -- the more currently available and similar-looking NWZ438F does not deliver as good sound as this one - as I found to my disappointment. With our dependence on digital media at an all time high I find the 512mg very limited. Even the 1gig is easy to fill up and listen to all it holds in a short period of time. There are other Mp3 players on the market with 2, 4, 8, 16gig etc. to choose from. The 2gig players begin at about 40 bucks or so. So it is always a good idea to go with the largest capacity you can afford. The 512mg these days is just not up to the task in my opinion. These Creatives although small are certainly well built. I bought two of these for my girls (8 and 10) in preparation for a plane ride. I spent around 20-30 hours trying to figure out how put a video on it (the software that comes with it is useless--If you own one, I recommend the free program "Super" and converting videos to 3GP format). The camera takes pictures that are barely recognizable, and has no flash. The audio menu is difficult to navigate, it takes a long time to get to the song you want. Podcasts are difficult to add. One of them is already broken after about 12 hours of use. The long and short of it--avoid any of these cheap Ematic MP3 players, unless you really enjoy headaches.

1.This player does not have strong bass sound. The music sounds flat and uninspired.

2. This player does not sync ratings and playcounts with windows media player 10 or 11, EVEN though it is listed as "mtp."

3. The artists, genres, and albums stored on the device are listed in RANDOM order. You will NEVER find the music that you are looking for especially if you fill it up to more than a gigabyte worth.

4. The d-click interface is not responsive. you will usually end up having to click twice for it to recognize that you clicked at all.

I am not angry about my purchase, just unsatisfied.

I bought this from Tigerdirect.com and you can not return it using the website. You must call the customer service number and wait to be put on hold, and hung up on before you get through to someone to help you. The from they send you with the return address on it says there is a 15% restocking fee if the item is not "defective" and you must pay return shipping.

This was my experience and I just wanted to share.
