This player is great!! I have had mine for several years. I mostly listen to it on the bus on the way to and from school (about 2 hours a day). The only problem that I have had was when i left the player in the car over night when it got down to 5 degrees last year. The player wouldn't turn on so I contacted Cutomer Care. By the way, I bought this at Walmart and I see on Amazon here that's it's not being marketed as a video player. On the official website and store packaging it is. Must not be a point to make on here, since it's false. I wanted to affirm what some others said. It takes FOREVER to put music on it and I can't do it with their software, only through Windows Media Player. It must just not be very compatible with Vista.

For a regular mp3 player, this item is very good. Graphically is cool and plays music fine. My main concern is the problem I went through in trying to get the thing to play video. First you have to install converter software to make your videos compatible with the player, which wasn't a problem with me. But I couldn't get the software to recognize the player. I sent an email to their support and was told to update the firmware. On the page for my item, the firmware update was a dead link, so I got another link and proceeded to download the update. As it was installing, it needed to connect with the device to finish the process but it couldn't detect the player once again. The also gave me a link to another update on firmware for a player that was not mine and therefor useless.

On a second attempt to fix the problem, they emailed me and told me I would have to prove my item was bought within the last year with receipt and they would send me a replacement for the item with some ungodly shipping fee. Or, they informed me, I would have to buy a new one. I was upset by this because I didn't see my player as defective as it has never given me any trouble and the problem is they refuse to update their software. After their response, I have come to wonder if the thing ever was made to or able to play video in the first place or if that was some sort of trick marketing to get me to buy it.

I bought this MP3 player more than a year and a half ago and I have been using it quite a bit ever since. It has exceeded all my expectations, and I am very happy with it. I even bought an extra two-year warranty thinking that any piece of portable electronics is likely to have some kind of problem within two years, and then I will be provided a new one after it breaks. Well, it looks like I'm going to be out that extra money, because it still works perfectly despite falling a few times from tables and chairs, etc.

I have looked at videos and photos on this player, but the screen is a little small to really enjoy. The quality is pretty darn good for a 2-inch screen, but it's still a 2-inch screen. So I use it almost exclusively for audio -- mainly for listening while commuting, walking or jogging. It is perfect for that.

The sync function works great with Windows Media Player 11. The battery life is good for at least eight hours of audio even after 1.5 years of steady use. The sound is really wonderful, although playback is so sensitive that the defects in low bitrate MP3s are more obvious than on other players I've used.

The only big downside is the proprietary cable. Sony loves proprietary formats that no other companies use (they won't even put firewire on their computers -- they use a lame powerless version of it instead). So if you lose the cable, you have to go find a replacement and pay a premium. I wish Sony would just use a mini USB cable, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

But I haven't lost or damaged my cable yet, so my experience has been entirely pleasant. I can highly recommend this player, and when I go to buy my next one, Sony will be high on the list of the products I consider.
