I bought this item a few weeks ago and I couldn't be happier. I got a trendy MP4 player along with saving around $300. Honestly, those that buy this product and complain that it's not as advanced as the iPod Touch, then they should really reconsider what they're doing. You get what you pay for and when you spend less than a hundred dollars there is no way it's going to be like the name brand competitors. It preformed exactly what I wanted it to - music; along with a few bonuses of video, photo, voice recorder, and a game. The touch screen isn't very hard to manage either; I don't need to use the stylus that came with it. Now, I don't mean to sound like an advertisement, but I did find this to be a very nice investment. If it were to break, I would even consider buying another one.

Like most things, it has its faults. Such as, the radio is kinda hinky; I'm not entirely sure how to work it. And the game is real "old school" and not really worth playing. Of course, it's not made of the best materials but it has already withstood a 4 foot drop onto concrete. I suggest to anyone that is going to buy one to also find screen protection sheets because seeing as it is a touch screen the plastic gets torn, scratched, and faded easily.

As I have mentioned earlier, it did exactly what I wanted it to and I am definitely happy with it, especially considering what I paid for it.

I hope people won't keep buying this product and constantly compare it to the iPod. Because, it's not and never will be. But it's a very nice alternative for those that want the music player without the astronomical prices.

We also notice that sometimes the screen will freeze up and you can't even turn it off without resetting. We purchased 2 for our 5 year olds, they both enjoy them. It has a great screen. I put an avi movie on it and it looked great. Music sounds very good also. You have 8 preset equalizer settings you can choose from or you can make one of your own. You just create folders on the PMP and drag and drop, so it will work with a mac. There is a hold button and you can shuffle all of your music. The photos I put on it looked great after I turned up the brightness of the screen in the settings menu. It will not play when it is charging. Don't buy it for camera. What can you expect for two megapixels? It takes a little while to get used to the buttons but once you play with it it's a snap. If you expect an ipod I guess you better buy one. For the price this is a pretty good player. I almost forgot. It has FM radio and picks up stations pretty good. Other things it does that I don't care about: Text reader, calendar, stop watch, voice recorder, and video camera. I didn't bother with those. 2. This player does not sync ratings and playcounts with windows media player 10 or 11, EVEN though it is listed as "mtp."

3. The artists, genres, and albums stored on the device are listed in RANDOM order. You will NEVER find the music that you are looking for especially if you fill it up to more than a gigabyte worth.

4. The d-click interface is not responsive. you will usually end up having to click twice for it to recognize that you clicked at all.

I am not angry about my purchase, just unsatisfied.

I bought this from Tigerdirect.com and you can not return it using the website. You must call the customer service number and wait to be put on hold, and hung up on before you get through to someone to help you. The from they send you with the return address on it says there is a 15% restocking fee if the item is not "defective" and you must pay return shipping.

The S3 itself is a lovely little device, playing a decent number of AV formats with a great sound and video quality. The screen is on the small side, but since I bought it primarily as an mp3 player, I don't mind that at all. The FM radio is great and easy to use, and i like the idea of datacasts (aka podcasts) a lot. It even came with a few games!

The problem is EmoDio. I cannot think of a time since I had Windows 95 as my OS that a program has crashed so many times. I've reinstalled it umpteen times, and tried every trick in the book, including installing an earlier version (Samsung Media Studio) and all I can say is that it makes me want to cry. I've literally spent hours trying to get media on the player using this program, and each time i click "sync" it quits on me. It got to a point where it quit everytime my S3 was plugged in.

That being said, you can just drag and drop music or sync it using WMP or Real player - but you miss out on a good amount of the functionality. I can't get playlists to work with anything other than EmoDio, and you can't sync datacasts in the same way. Moreover, since Samsung has some proprietary video format, you can't really use the video capability with anything else. Overall, Emodio has turned this from a cute and functional little player to a time-consuming waste of money. update: well almost a year later and the thing took a dump on me, its done will not turn on or charge, the computer recognizes it just like the other reviwer here said but the mp3 player itself will not do anything. junk should have just spent the extra 50 for an ipod.


this is a great option for half the price of an ipod 8gb, and works as it is supposed to to an extent. some minor issues is the touch pad can be too sensitive at times and not enough so at others. the screen is hard to see in daylight, turning the unit on is a minor annoyance because you have to hold the sliding switch down for like 6 seconds, which is a pain. a second or two would be more efficient. sometimes when you load the music menu it repeats all the options 3 times when you can only select the first section of options. and on occasion when you power off the unit the screen flickers repeatedly for about a minute. all in all the unit is full of small glitches, but it still plays music, so as far as I'm concerned it isn't bad for the price. also, the control keys light up white, don't let the picture mislead you like it did me. the red would have been a much more appealing asthetic.
