Ematic 4GB Video MP3 Player with 2.4-Inch QVGA Screen, Digital Camera and Video Recorder (Green)

I purchased this for my 10 year old granddaughter based on other reviews. When I received the product it look so cute. However, my granddaughter opened the gift with excitement and we charged it immediately. After the battery was charged, we could only get it to operate when connected to a computer. I now have to go buy her another gift because this one does not work!

Cheapest Apple iPod 4 GB mini M9434LL/A (Green) OLD MODEL

There is no doubt that this is a beautiful piece of workmanship. I have an Apple-obsessed friend that I have teased for years about his Apple fixation. So when I bought this secondhand beauty I emailed him my impression:

"Build quality and packaging are exceptional, truly first rate. Excellent tactility. Apple really has that part sorted out; I'm impressed.
Screen and CPU somewhat less magnificent."

Part of my teasing of this pleasant fellow was due to my experience with iTunes; I had given in to his constant evangelism about my trying it out. iTunes represented, for me, all that is wrong with software. Unjustifiably massive bloat, braindead 70MB updates, resource hogging, and treating the user like he has been lobotomized (or hypnotized by Apple). So no iTunes for me, no matter what. The solution?

"The OS is so-so and iTunes is the Root Of All Evil, so I installed
rockbox on it and am enjoying it immensely. I load
mp3/ogg/flac/whatever by copying across the USB connection.
(rockbox dot org)"

Rockbox lets me use that beautiful Apple hardware with an interface that puts /me/ in control. And I can play ogg, flac, Still, I find myself using the iPod less than a Sansa e260 that had an MSRP 3-4x less than the iPod. The Sansa has a color screen, better video playback (yes, you can play video on your mini with rockbox. It also has something that might seem trivial: a place to attach a lanyard.

Since I use the Sansa for mobile listening I might get one of those audio docks to use the iPod with my stereo system.Get more detail about Apple iPod 4 GB mini M9434LL/A (Green) OLD MODEL.

Order RCA TH1802 2 GB Thumbdrive with FM Radio and Voice Recording (Black )

They have a very short lifespan. I don't know whether it's a firmware problem or a hardware problem - the firmware hasn't been updated - but they tend to crash, which I didn't think was possible for a flash device. After about three months, mine refused to turn on, and my PC wouldn't recognize it when I plugged it in. My replacement sometimes hangs on booting up, or refuses to recognize certain files ("Cannot play this file") on some boots but not on others.

Other aspects:

*The interface is a bit clumsy, and it's easy to hit the wrong quadrant on the gamepad-style controls.

*Player inconsistently decides on booting whether to resume playing where you left off on shutdown, or to take you to the menu. I studied it for weeks trying to figure out what was making it choose one option or the other, but it's utterly without rhyme or reason.

*Interface has difficulty understanding file tagging. Mainly it ignores it.

*Capacity is closer to 1.8 Gb than 2.

*Sound quality is fine, but this device is quieter than other MP3 players I've used.

*The voice recorder produces unusually grainy results. I've actually gotten good results with the FM radio, although the first unit had trouble retaining presets at first.Get more detail about RCA TH1802 2 GB Thumbdrive with FM Radio and Voice Recording (Black ).

Where To Buy Apple iPod shuffle 2 GB Purple (2nd Generation) OLD MODEL

I decided to buy this after seeing a friends. I was looking to get something small for the gym that I didn't have to have strapped to my arm or have to hold. This was perfect.Clips right on your clothes and stays there. I also got the 2GB so I could have more songs. It was the best thing I bought so far this year! I even take it to work with me and listen to music on my breaks. Which has allowed my stress level to go down.

Insignia Pilot with Bluetooth NS-4V24 - Digital player / radio - flash 4 GB - WMA, Ogg, MP3, WMAPro, protected WMA (DRM 10) - video playback - display: 2.4"

I recently bought the 4GB Insignia Pilot and was initially pleased with it. Certainly the number of features and the design are pretty sharp and a great deal. HOWEVER, after only a few times using it it started to freeze up. It would just be playing songs, usually about to start a new track, and then freeze completely. No buttons would work. You can't even turn it off when this happens. Your only option is to let the battery completely drain, or unplug the battery (but this involves removing a tiny screw on the battery cover, so you need an eyeglass screwdriver and obviously you can't do this while out and about).

I started searching the internet and found out that this is a WIDESPREAD defect in these MP3 players. Tons of people describe the same problem. Also, go to the Insignia website (it's Best Buy's housebrand), and you will find that all support for these devices has been DISCONTINUED. No user manuals, no info, no nothing. They've totally shut down this line of products, probably because they're not reliable.

In summary, if it weren't for the freezing problem, I'd give it 5 stars, but that is a major, major strike against.Get more detail about Insignia Pilot with Bluetooth NS-4V24 - Digital player / radio - flash 4 GB - WMA, Ogg, MP3, WMAPro, protected WMA (DRM 10) - video playback - display: 2.4".

Panasonic SV-MP020 Digital Audio Player This instant

We have owned this device since it came out. Recently, it stopped working as we remembered it.

When you hook it up via USB cable, it would appear with the green icon in the lower right corner, and was recognized as a "Mass Storage Device." If you go into Device Manager, it appears under the Hard Disk section. Everything we loaded on went fine.

Flash forward to this month. For some reason, it was coming in as "Found New Hardware" as an MTP Device. Looking under Device Manager, it comes in under Portable Device. This might be ok, however, we were no longer able to save files onto the device as we had been doing using Windows Explorer drag&drop. When we disconnected, it was stuck in WAIT and the screen never cleared.

I realized the difference when I connected the Panasonic MP3 player to a computer that does not get Windows updates. Connecting via USB cable, the mp3 player worked properly.

Doing Internet searches, I pinned it down to being the fault of Windows Media Player version 11. This new version forces the device to be seen as an MTP. That might be fine for some mp3 players, but this Panasonic just doesn't work well under this scheme.

We managed to get rid of WMP version 11 and are now back at version 9. Connecting, the Panasonic mp3 player comes up as we fondly remembered it. Now we are hoping it works just as well.

We love the sound of this mp3 player and hope it works much longer now. Microsoft-- please stop monkeying with our OS!Get more detail about Panasonic SV-MP020 Digital Audio Player.

ZEN 2GB Refurbished (Black) Immediately

i love almost everything about this player! theres only two things i dont like about it. 1 is the volume doesnt go as high as id like but the quality depends on the headphones mostly. the other is the menu. i havent figured out if you can play all the videos without having to go back to the list after every video is done playing. and the video quality does depend on the actual video that you want to put on the player. pretty much if it has crappy quality before its on the player its going to still be crappy when its on the player. but some things i love is that you can rotate and zoom in on pics, you can change your background to a pic or choose from 6 different colored backgrounds, and one very nice thing is that you can delete pics/videos/audio right from the player. you dont even have to plug it back up to the computer! also it has radio and an sd card slot! so if you dont want to spend alot of money on the bigger memory sized versions you can get this 2GB and put in a large size sd card that will save you money at the end!!! whats better then that???Get more detail about ZEN 2GB Refurbished (Black).

Creative Zen Vision W 30 GB Widescreen Multimedia Player (Black) Buy Now

Looks great, battery lasts basically a full day, extremely easy to use, great features, very portable (I skateboard and play other sports with it in my pocket), and I find the sound quality to be better than that of other top MP3 player brands, good sized screen, decent speakers, picks up radio, has a built in clock, recorder, alarm, and even a sound equalizer setting (so that you don't go deaf) etc, plays good quality music and movies... and for those of you who like blowing out your ears, this thing is perfectly capable of doing so with the proper headphones(with the sound equalizer setting off)! ;D

Most importantly, this thing doesn't have the hassles of brands such as the iPood (my pants) when adding media to it.

I do a lot of traveling and had been watching movies on a laptop when there was enough room. Finally decided to buy a portable devices with my extra per diem and researched them all. For price and hard drive space, the iPod classic is the best.

New 8GB 2.8" Touch Screen MP3 MP4 Player with Camera +Built-in speaker+ Mini SD card support Right now

The only reason I gave it one star is because the review wouldn't publish otherwise. We bought two of these for our children for Christmas 2008 because they looked so much like the iPod touch but didn't give the kids internet access. They took fair pictures, had touch screen (very slow response time, but okay for the kids), played their music, etc. Less than week after Christmas one of them stopped working. I contacted the company and asked for a refund which they issued promptly when I returned the product. I was very pleased with their service at that point. By March of 2009 the second one had stopped working and I contacted the company again, expressed how unhappy we were with the product and told them that I wanted them to know that we wouldn't be able to recommend the product to family or friends. Their response was very short, "Oh good". Seriously, that was their entire response. I would not recommend this product or this company.Get more detail about New 8GB 2.8" Touch Screen MP3 MP4 Player with Camera +Built-in speaker+ Mini SD card support.

Discount Samsung S3 4 GB Slim Portable Media Player (Blue)

I'm actually kind of surprised that nobody's mentioned two of the worst things about this player. If you've ever played with the iPod's dial and are familiar with its degree of responsiveness, you'll definitely be missing out on it here. The interface is crazy laggy -- at LEAST 100ms per interaction, and closer 200-300ms on every menu change. Now two or three tenths of a second might not seem like much, but it definitely adds up, especially when you realize that the only way to scroll through your music or adjust the volume is by finger tapping through the lag. Moreover, in the current market of MP3 players there's absolutely no reason why anybody ought to put up with this. There are better options on the market in the same price range if you look around.

Secondly, the way the buttons work make it impossible to do just about anything without picking the device out of your pocket and putting all of your attention on it. Other players are not like this; they frequently make it easy to adjust the volume or change tracks by just sticking your hand in your pocket and adjusting. If you want to do that here, however, you'll testing your luck on its buttonless surface with very little by which to judge that you're jabbing the right spot. Switching tracks by accident while trying to adjust the volume, or ending up in the music-options menu and then having to pull the thing out of your pocket in order to opt out it, gets old quickly.

Other people have mentioned the uselessness of the variable speed playback function (way to tempt users with something seemingly great, Sanyo!) and the clunky Samsung Media Studio.

No, no, no. This isn't acceptable. Saving a few bucks isn't worth taking this large of a hit in usability. Get more detail about Samsung S3 4 GB Slim Portable Media Player (Blue).

Cheap Philips SA30 2 GB Flash Video MP3 Player with FM Radio and 1.5-Inch Color Screen (Black)

I received the Philips 3025/37 brand new as a gift, and initially I liked it. It played mp3s OK, had a decent FM radio, and a video player, which I did not try. After a little over a month, it went dead. D-E-A-D; would not respond at all. Sort of like the built-in battery had been removed, except that it hadn't been. And no amount of charging made any difference. I called Philips Tech Support. They suggested I reset the player by using the Philips Device Manager software, but their instructions did not work, as the Device Manager failed to recognize the player. Next they asked for the serial number of the device, which is totally illegible because of it's extremely small size. I seriously don't believe there is a human being alive who could read the serial number from the device without a microscope, and I don't have one. Maybe someone with extremely sharp eyesight, using a magnifying glass in bright light would have a chance, but not me. The player is totally useless. And now for the postscript: Because this player went dead, I made the mistake of getting another Philips mp3 player, the SA018102K/37. It didn't have the exact same problem, but it is extremely counter-intuitive to use and refuses to play mp3s, although the FM radio does work. Tech support's answer: It should play the mp3s. In two months, I got 2 Philips mp3 players, and neither one of them will play mp3s. Buy any Philips product at your own risk.Get more detail about Philips SA30 2 GB Flash Video MP3 Player with FM Radio and 1.5-Inch Color Screen (Black).

Buying Transcend T.sonic 650 4 GB MP3 Player (Black)

This MP3-player was supposed to replace a 512MB Philips Model because the memory just wasn't enough. I've had high expectations since the Philips one was really good and I never had any problems. If you want only the basics (simply play music) without any expansive extras, I highly recommend you this player. It is a good quality, cheap, small and easy to handle. And the 4GB of memory are more than enough for the average music collection. I've had only very few, minor problems with this player and the sound quality is great, even with the supplied headphones it's okay.
Five stars for one of the few cheap, easy players left on the market.Get more detail about Transcend T.sonic 650 4 GB MP3 Player (Black).

Buy Archos 2 Vision 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Red)

I just bought this player recently and have had no bad experiences with it. The touchpad to switch songs is not AS sensitive as I might like but overall the player is great. It comes with the software to convert videos to a format it will pay. You can easily drag and drop files into folders. The sound is good. For the price, it is a great little player.

I think the player pictured by the seller is a more updated version than the one I actually received. The pictures added by customers look almost identical to what I have. There is no FM transmitter on this device. Though the product I have works perfectly fine, the vast difference between the product shown and what was received makes it begin to feel a little like false advertising rather than a good bargain.Get more detail about Archos 2 Vision 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Red).

Jwin Jx-Mp264 4Gb 1.8 Color Lcd Video Mp3 Player With Fm Radio Top Quality

So I didn't have very high expectations when I ordered my jWIN Jx-Mp264 4GB for about $25 (J&R via Amazon.com); at least it had decent storage size and Mac compatibility, which is increasingly harder to find in non-iPod mp3 players. I didn't need the player for video - really, watching anything other than the song info on the nicely clear but small screen would be enough to send me back to the eye doctor for another exam.

For basic - really basic - needs, the jWIN Jx-Mp264 4GB mostly delivers. The unit is fairly small - about the size of the first generation iPod nano - and nicely finished with a silver metal back and simple glossy black plastic front. It feels solid enough in the hand, too. Controls are an on-off switch on top, and on the front a vertical slide for function and volume selection, with right and left touch arrows for advancing tracks. Sound quality is very good for the price, with several equalization options. Battery life on a full charge is above average. Display is crisp and bright, with nice color.

That's the good. The bad is that there are no menu options for artist, album, playlists - the "Functions 101" of a good mp3 player. My 2GB cheapo Cobys have those options, which are no brainers to include for logical media navigation. The jWIN's tracks must be selected by forwarding through every one of them - not fun if all 4GBs are loaded with hundreds of tunes. The touch controls are quite sensitive and easy to jostle, but the center slider also locks within seconds and requires a swipe to free it. There are no options for changing the sensitivity, either, which would have been welcome. A first grade-level user's manual comes on a small CD-ROM; don't expect detailed help from it.

Again, by not expecting a whole lot of much from it, the jWIN Jx-Mp264 is a good sounding, acceptable but not stellar player. The lack of basic music navigation controls is a serious bummer (since jWIN's Web site doesn't even list this player at all, I don't hold out hope of a firmware upgrade to correct that glaring oversight). I just let the player go along like one mega playlist or very patiently scroll through the songs until I find the artist or tune I want. For the paltry amount that I paid for the jWIN, I can live with it - it sure beat shelling out another $100 for a similar Apple product. With better navigation, though, this jWIN would have been a budget-class winner, hands down.Get more detail about Jwin Jx-Mp264 4Gb 1.8 Color Lcd Video Mp3 Player With Fm Radio.

Sony 2 GB Walkman MP3 Player (Pink) Best Quality

I own a Ipod classic, nano, shuffle, sony bean player and now this walkman. After switching from sony players to apple products, i always missed the ease of dragging dropping files and using the player like a USB drive. Itunes slows down my PC and hate to wait for 30 seconds while it launches. I loved my Nano, thats why i bought a shuffle for running, but shuffle lacks of display and the pain of Itunes made me switch back to sony players for running.
This player is great, compact and solid. Easy to transfer files just by drag n drop, is a great flash drive to hold any kind of files. Sound quality is great and is in par with the shuffle. Love the Bass button that I can turn on or off depending on the type of song.
This cannot replace a Ipod nano but is way better replecement to Ipod shuffle.Get more detail about Sony 2 GB Walkman MP3 Player (Pink).

Nextar T30 4 GB Video MP3 Player with 3.5-Inch TFT LCD (Black) Buy Now

appearance - i like the way this looks, light, easy to use and big screen
durability - i rated this 3 star simply because the case is made of plastic
ease of use - i havent read the manual yet but i can easily navigate through the menus
sound quality - sound is ok for me, if you have another headset you can use the supplied adaptor to make it work for the nextar t30

the only complain i have for this item is the time it takes to convert the videos. a normal 2 hour movie takes around 20-25 minutes to convert it to avi files.

I first had a 4GB ipod nano (2nd generation) and I really loved it. It was great just for listening to music. My fiance decided to get a zune, and once he got it I was jealous :) it was alot cooler than my ipod, it could play videos, and had better games. I found a zune that was 8gb for the same price I had paid for my ipod. The zune is definietly better than the ipod, and even the zune software is pretty cool. It works with WMP, which I liked better than iTunes. The ONLY thing that I miss about my ipod was the ability to search for a song. With zune I cant search but because it is a touch pad it is quicker. Overall, I love it. Get more detail about Zune 16 GB Video MP3 Player (Black).

Low Price Creative Zen Stone 1 GB MP3 Player (Lime Green)

Wonderful product! Gave it to my mother for Christmas and she's crazy about it. The 1GB is perfect for a few CDs worth of music and is very easy to load. Her only problem with it is that if it gets cold (like if she left it in the car overnight during cold weather) it needs to warm up before it will turn on. Not a huge deal but something to be aware of in case it happens to you. Don't panic! Just wait for a while.Get more detail about Creative Zen Stone 1 GB MP3 Player (Lime Green).

Save Philips SA2446BT/37 4 GB Flash Audio MP3 Player with Bluetooth (Silver)

One and a half month after I bought this, I rue the day i bought this thing.
Sound quality is bad enough but It crashes, behaves erratically too often.
Bluetooth sound quality and range is pathetic.. connection gets lost too many times.
Just after a month, the power switch does not work. the software has to be repaired with the utility provided too often and still the problems persist.
Stay Away from this!

Cheapest RCA M4008 Opal 8GB Flash MP3 / MP4 (Video) Player with 1.5 inch Full Color OLED Display, Voice Recording and Built-in Microphone (Color: BLACK)

this was the first mp3 player I ever had. I am now getting a Sandisk Sansa Fuze 8gb to replace it.
I loved this thing though. One time in a car trip I laid down on the seat to take a nap and I accidentally cracked the screen. Yet it was fine for another year.
The battery life degraded though. it only seems to last for about 2 hours max now. Also I didn't like that you couldn't make playlists. The shuffle feature isn't very good either, it favors certain songs and plays in the same 'shuffled' order.Get more detail about RCA M4008 Opal 8GB Flash MP3 / MP4 (Video) Player with 1.5 inch Full Color OLED Display, Voice Recording and Built-in Microphone (Color: BLACK).

Cheap Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30 GB MP3 Player

Why do people drool over the ipod. It is a horrible design, IMO. :)

I have had my Zen since 2004 and it is still working just as nicely as the first day I bought it. Back then it was only about $100 too :)

I keep the cover that came with it on it and listen to my music both actively as well as, sitting in one place. It freezes once in a while, but I keep a needle stuck inside the case to hit the reset button with; very convenient!

I Love my Zen and would not even consider buying an overpriced, overly advertised iPod, as long as Creative makes such awesome MP3 players. Unfortunately, Creative is designing some of their new MP3 players after the iPod. I hope Creative keep making players in their own design also, for the customers who love it.

I can't believe I spent about $100 for this player and can sell it for about $100, 4 1/2 years later! :) But I wouldn't.Get more detail about Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra 30 GB MP3 Player.

Buying SanDisk Sansa e270 6 GB MP3 Player with SD Expansion Slot (Black)

I like this mp3 player, but since I have a crap ton with me at the moment, it's actually taken a backseat til I get home.

pros:
1) 6 gigs, screen capable of pictures mp3 and video
2) sd slot is a nice addition for music oversaturated people
3) at 40 bucks, even refurbished, it is a steal

cons:
1) clunkier than just about every other mp3 player I ever owned, which doesn't make it very versatile in my case.
2) doesn't necessarily deliver anymore features for the size (it's not that big, but for some reason I've always tended to buy small mp3 players)
3) it's not as asthetically pleasing, but I guess that's just being nitpickyGet more detail about SanDisk Sansa e270 6 GB MP3 Player with SD Expansion Slot (Black).
