Cheap Philips SA30 2 GB Flash Video MP3 Player with FM Radio and 1.5-Inch Color Screen (Black)

I received the Philips 3025/37 brand new as a gift, and initially I liked it. It played mp3s OK, had a decent FM radio, and a video player, which I did not try. After a little over a month, it went dead. D-E-A-D; would not respond at all. Sort of like the built-in battery had been removed, except that it hadn't been. And no amount of charging made any difference. I called Philips Tech Support. They suggested I reset the player by using the Philips Device Manager software, but their instructions did not work, as the Device Manager failed to recognize the player. Next they asked for the serial number of the device, which is totally illegible because of it's extremely small size. I seriously don't believe there is a human being alive who could read the serial number from the device without a microscope, and I don't have one. Maybe someone with extremely sharp eyesight, using a magnifying glass in bright light would have a chance, but not me. The player is totally useless. And now for the postscript: Because this player went dead, I made the mistake of getting another Philips mp3 player, the SA018102K/37. It didn't have the exact same problem, but it is extremely counter-intuitive to use and refuses to play mp3s, although the FM radio does work. Tech support's answer: It should play the mp3s. In two months, I got 2 Philips mp3 players, and neither one of them will play mp3s.
