Sony 4 GB Slim Noise-Canceling Video MP3 Player (Black) Best Quality

I love this player. In fact, I just bought two more. Once I realized that you can't get replacement headphones for this...I figured I'd just buy the whole mp3 player...just to get the headphones.

Sound is warm, rich and the equalizer is meaningful, but the sound is good set at flat eq. Price = totally worth-it. Feature rich and easy to use.

I have irivers, iaudios, ipods, creatives and old sonys...the sound is as good or better than the iaudio players (my personal favorite for sound). However, all of this depends on the headphones you're using.

This player sound's great with it's own headphones as well as Woodies and Shure E2c. Sound is awful with the Etymotic hf2 (but the only thing that the Etymotics sound good on is the iaudio).

Cons: Doesn't work with Macs. Intermittent capture of my album art (but I'm almost certain this is a WMP-11 problem). Discontinued by Sony and replaced with inferior product.

This is my...I don't know...20th or so personal music device...really, I haven't been this happy with a player since my first Sony Walkman CASSETTE Player in 1984. (is cassette even word anymore?)

iPods are the bomb for interface....they are inferior at everything else including quality of build (IMHO).

I would buy this again (and did).

Update 1: I thought what's the worst that could happen if I used this Sony on a Mac? Maybe a reset...maybe total corruption of the Sony Os? I went ahead and did it since I have three of these now (spares). It works. You can drag and drop files on a Snow Leopard Mac strainght into this unit. Album Artwork will copy too...as long as the artwork is 240 x 240 (still trying to find the true dimension as some larger files did scale without any editing). The Mac Finder will access it like an external HD. Just drop the files into the correct folder (ie Music, Podcast...etc). the ONLY problem I had was unmounting it. After ejecting the drive, I had maybe two seconds to unplug the Sony before it remounted again in the Finder. However, once I figured this out...everything has been fine. No apparent corruption in the Sony.

I now like everything about this player....Upgrading my rating from 4 stars (cause supposedly didn't work on Mac) to 5 stars

Update 2: I just got back from a business trip. I spent a total of 20 hours on airlines. The noise cancelling DOES WORK quite well. It makes a huge difference in this instance. Using it (noise cancelling) around the house...not much difference but WOW...these thing really cut out the noise of aircraft engines. I could listen to music, with volume set at 8, and hear the music perfectly.

The interface/navigation is actually extremely intuitive. CNET thought the interface a average...NOT at all...quite the opposite.

Note: I have now purchased 6 (from TigerDirect) of these because I like them that much. Even the size is perfect. Each time I buy, I purchase "all they have in stock" however...a couple of days later they always have "only two left" again. This tells me that they obviously have more than two or 3 left in stock and are using this tactic to induce a bit of panic purchasing.

After my last purchase...they (Tiger) raised the price 10 bucks. I still think this unit is the best sounding and has the most useful features...and while it's still worth it...I loathe these type of gimmicks. Also, I think I have enough for a couple of gifts now and a couple of spares for me. Buy them while they are still available. If you want the New Nano size with 10x better sound quality...this is the unit.

Lastly, the ear buds fit my ears perfectly. I'm certain this contributes to my experience of this player.Get more detail about Sony 4 GB Slim Noise-Canceling Video MP3 Player (Black).
